HOW AT RISK IS YOUR COMPUTER?

There are five main things that influence the level of risk for your computer:

   * Your behaviour and awareness to risks

   * Whether your operating system is Windows, MAC or Linux

   * What software you use for email and internet browsing

   * Whether you are on a broadband connection, and if so what equipment you use to connect to the internet

   * What (if any) security software you use and how often you update it

Windows xp Firewall is better than nothing but is almost next to useless compared with available free firewalls.

Windows Defender is better than nothing but it is out performed by Advanced Windows Care on the Tune Up page.

Windows One Care is again better than nothing but it is out performed by many Internet Security 2008 programs.

If you use a USB connection to an external modem then again it is not very secure, many external modems have the Ethernet RJ45 connection enabling you to install a LAN (Local Area Network).

If you are on Cable or DSL, you are encouraged to get a hardware router with NAT firewall.

On the Anti Virus page you will find how to combine your software Firewall with your Anti Virus program.
